Canada
is located in North America in the area north of the United States.
It contains the
world's second largest land mass. It is divided into ten provinces and
is
ranked 35th based on population, with an estimated population of 32
million
people. The official languages are French and English. Canada belongs to the Commonwealth of
Nations
after they received their independence from England
and its capital is called Ottawa.
The Canadian stock charts are located on the
Toronto Stock
Exchange. The Toronto Stock Exchange has the largest listing of
Canadian stock
charts, because it is the largest exchange in Canada.
The History of the Toronto
Stock Exchange
The Toronto Stock exchange was created in 1861 by
twenty-four men, but it was not recognized by the government until
1878. At
that time it was called the Association of Brokers.
When the Association of Brokers merged with the
Standard
Stock and Mining Exchange in 1934, then they adopted the new name of
the
Toronto Stock Exchange.
The Toronto Stock Exchange continued to progress
as was
evident on the Canadian stock charts. The exchange made a dramatic move
in 1999
by deciding an electronic format in which to conduct trades. Thus
unlike the
New York Stock Exchange, the Toronto Stock Exchange does not have
employees on
the floor buying and selling stocks.
Somehow as time progressed, the Toronto Stock
Exchange
became the only set of Canadian stock charts in which to use. The
Vancouver
Stock Exchange in British
Columbia
merged with the Alberta Stock Exchange to create the Canadian Venture
Exchange.
The Canadian Venture Exchange continued and the Venture was joined by
the
Montreal Exchange and the Winnipeg Stock Exchange in Manitoba.
So the exchanges of all of the Canadian provinces merged their
stock
charts to be added to the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Today the Toronto Stock Exchange has truly become
one of the
greatest stock exchanges on the globe. In terms of its exchanges, the
Toronto
Stock Exchange ranks fourth after the New York Stock Exchange, the
NASDAQ, and
the Chicago Stock Exchange. It is the only exchange in North America whose stock charts operate without
traders working the
floor.
