What is Market Index History?

Anyone who is remotely interested in trading stocks and shares through the stock exchange will obviously need to plenty of research on both the shares they are buying but also on the market as well. Indicators and triggers are the things that determine whether you should buy or sell your shares, and in order to ascertain exactly what your triggers or indicators are you should gain a good knowledge of everything about and surrounding your shares. The market index history will show increases and decreases in the market and the resultant change in share prices; not only do you need to study the history of the appropriate share prices but also the corresponding changes in the market index. To this end, a good knowledge and model of market index history is not only useful but vital.

How to turn Market Index History into a working Market model.

Using Market Index History alone will not give you the insight you need in order to make profitable and insightful judgments regarding the price movements of your shares however it is the basis of a working Market model. First you should decide what timescales you are going to use. Some traders like the quick hit and use 24 hours of data with the intention of buying shares and then selling them again within a couple of hours, but for smaller investors it may be necessary to concentrate on longer periods of time. A good general guide is to use a 3 month model, so you should have 3 month’s of market data and 3 months of share price data.

Ensuring accuracy transpose one on top of the other; this is a very basic market model and by marking notable increases and decreases in the share price you may be able to see some basic triggers already although if it were that easy there would be no margin of profit involved in share dealing because everybody would be doing it.

Factors that change share prices.

At this point you need to consider what other factors may change the price of your chosen shares apart from just the Market Index History. Obvious factors are natural disasters and wars. While you may expect this to cause a drop in the price of any shares this simply may not be the case. Find any major news event in the three months you are concentrating on and mark them on your Market model. Again, at this point you may notice there are some more determining factors beginning to emerge on your Market model.

Summary of Market Index History.

Those are the basics of creating a working Market model using easily attainable data from the Internet. From here you may want to consider working backwards by finding the major changes in prices and then try to determine what changed them and the time between these two events. By creating your own model and finding your own triggers and alarms this is an excellent start to trading shares profitably and the basis of a good investing future.
